Heritage scrapbooking - A great way to record your family history!

Heritage scrapbooking involves creating special albums based on your family history and can be a brilliant way to remember the lives of your ancestors.  For keen genealogists, a heritage scrapbook makes a great place to display all the facts and stories you’ve dug up in your research.  Scrapbook albums don’t have to contain just photographs, so if you don’t have many old pictures you could use other types of memorabilia to reflect the personalities and achievements of your forebears.  For instance, you might have some old greetings cards or newspaper clippings.  Or you may be able to find some historical photos or pictures of the places where your ancestors lived.

With heritage scrapbooking you can use all kinds of resources to help bring your ancestors’ stories to life.  Examples include copies of birth, marriage or death records or pages from census returns, which often reveal interesting facts about our family history.  Use your imagination when planning your scrapbook layouts.  Ideas for heritage scrapbooks include adding visuals such as old maps, vintage themed stickers or clipart images or even scanned images of medals or jewelry.  Journaling is a fantastic way to add narrative and evoke feelings.  Rather than just using plain facts such as names and dates, why not include quotes or phrases?  Vintage scrapbooking is a wonderful way to preserve your family legacy for future generations.
